Player Information

The Tri-Cities Girls Fastpitch Softball Association (TCGFSA) is a not-for-profit organization with the goal to foster, develop and promote girls amateur fastpitch softball within the greater Tri-Cities area.

AGE DIVISIONS

TCGFSA is open to girls, 6-18 years old. There are 6 age divisions; 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U.  Depending on the amount of registered players, 16U and 18U may be combined.  During Fall Ball, 8U and 10U may be combined if registration is low.

Can I join even if I have never played softball? Absolutely! We encourage all skill levels to join. Our leagues are built around girls playing with friends and having fun as well as learning the game and building skills.

How long is the season? The TCGFSA recreational Spring softball season runs from April through July (dependent on what age group). There may be a Fall softball season depending on interest, and would run between early September and mid-October.

How are the teams and age groups organized? Teams are organized in leagues, determined by players' year of birth. Each league spans two years. When you hear someone say "8U", they are referring to the 8-and-younger league, and so on. Every effort is made to keep teams geographically based by school or city, but sometimes this isn't possible due to the number of players interested in playing.

League Birth Date Range Expectations
8U 9/1/2014 – 8/31/2017 Introduces basic concepts, skills, and strategies. Coach pitch. Games are scored but not reported with a limit of 3 runs per team per inning, with modified game rules (see By-Laws for more information). There are post-season games, but are not based on win-loss records
10U 9/1/2012 – 8/31/2014 Instruction on fundamentals of hitting, base-running, and defense. Combination of Player and Coach pitch. Games are scored and reported with a limit of 3 runs per team per inning, with modified game rules (see By-Laws for more information). There is a post-season tournament with seeding determined by win-loss record.
12U 9/1/2010 – 8/31/2012 Emphasis on fundamentals and more advanced defensive strategies and skills. Run limit is now 5 runs per team per inning, with regulation USA Softball rules. Win/loss records are kept and used to determine seeding for the post-season tournament.
14U 9/1/2008 – 8/31/2010
16U 9/1/2006 – 8/31/2008
18U 9/1/2004 – 8/31/2006
